Pelini, who guided the Cornhuskers to a 9-4 mark in 2008, his first year with the school, will make $1.851 million annually. The deal will make him the sixth-highest paid head coach in the Big 12 Conference.
His original contract, which he signed after being hired on December 2, 2007, was for five years and was worth $1.1 million a season.

Sheridan, who started the final three contests last season and four overall, was injured at practice session on Tuesday afternoon.
“He’s got a small fracture in his lower leg,” Rodriguez said. “According to the trainer’s talk it’s not a displaced fracture so he doesn’t have to have surgery.

Bellotti will become the athletic director on July 1, at which time offensive coordinator Chip Kelly will take over as the new head coach.
In the interim, Bellotti will serve as a senior counselor to current athletic director Pat Kilkenny.

The procedure, which was reported by NFL.com on Sunday, is expected to keep the receiver out of commission for at least 10 weeks, keeping Crabtree from participating at Texas Tech’s pro day later this month.
Originally projected as one of the first picks in the 2009 NFL Draft, Crabtree will not be ready until training camp for whichever team selects him in April.
