Chiefs sign S Page

A three-year veteran of the NFL, Page was drafted by the Chiefs in the seventh round of the 2006 draft.

He has played all 48 games of his three-year career and has 34 starts during that time.

Bears ink LB Tinoisamoa to one-year contract

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Tinoisamoa, who was the leading tackler for the St. Louis Rams last season, apparently did not fit into new head coach Steve Spagnuolo’s defensive scheme, as the linebacker was given his release in May.

Redskins release OT Jansen after 10 seasons with club

Jansen, 33, was about to enter his 11th season with the Redskins after the club drafted him in the second round of the 1999 NFL Draft. He had served as the primary starter at right tackle since entering the league, appearing in 126 games — including 123 starts.

The Michigan product played in 14 games, 11 starts, for the Redskins last season after an ankle injury cost him all but one game in 2007.

Bears agree to extension with DL Idonije

Financial terms of the two-year deal were not disclosed.

Idonije posted career highs with 28 tackles, including 18 solo, and 3 1/2 sacks in 16 games last season for the Bears. He made three starts.

Broncos cut RB Arrington

TheDenver Postis reporting that Arrington will need season-ending microfracture surgery on his right knee.

Arrington and the Broncos agreed on a four-year deal in March for a reported $10 million to serve as Denver’s third-down back. The 26-year-old was to be part of a complete overhaul of the Broncos’ backfield this season, joining fellow newcomers Correll Buckhalter, LaMont Jordan, Darius Walker and 2009 first-round draft pick Knowshon Moreno.

Pats sign LB Lenon

The 31-year-old Lenon spent the past three seasons with Detroit, starting all 16 games in each of those campaigns and averaging 135 tackles per season. His 146 tackles in 2008 led the Lions.

Lenon will begin the 2009 season having not missed a game over a seven-year NFL career and has started 63 consecutive games dating back to his time with the Packers (2002-05).

Browns sign CB Hood

Hood spent the past two seasons with Arizona where he appeared in 31 games and had 97 tackles and six interceptions, including two returned for touchdowns, and 35 passes defensed.

The 5-foot-11, 27-year-old was signed by Philadelphia as an undrafted free agent out of Auburn in 2003 and spent four seasons with the Eagles. He played in 56 games for the team and had 122 tackles, five interceptions and 28 passes defensed.

Cowboys will not keep Ellis

Earlier in the off-season, Ellis told reporters he was told that Anthony Spencer would be put ahead of him on the depth chart. He has expressed concern about his diminishing role with the team and the status of his contract.

Should the Cowboys release him, the team would save about $4.15 million on the cap, while a trade would save them more than $5 million since the team would not have to pay a $1.5 million guaranteed bonus.

In the presence of greatness

By Scott Haynes, Senior College Football Editor Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) – My earliest college football memory is of the 1978 Cotton Bowl, as an eight-year old boy watched his favorite team (Notre Dame) and his favorite player at the time (Joe Montana) upset the top- ranked Texas Longhorns for the national title. The following season in the same venue, “Joe Cool,” as he would later become, rallied the Irish from a 22-point, fourth-quarter deficit to knock off Houston in one of the greatest college football games of all time. The comeback was that much more impressive considering the weather conditions and the fact that Montana was suffering from the flu in the subsequently-named “Chicken Soup Game.” The point of my little stroll down memory lane is to date myself and say that I have been hooked on college football for just over 30 years now. Oregon QB Roper to transfer

Roper started Oregon’s first three games last year but suffered a knee injury that forced him to miss the next four games.

The Georgia native finished his Oregon career with 952 passing yards, nine touchdowns and six interceptions.
