Kentucky DE Jarmon ruled ineligible

Jarmon indicated in a press conference Saturday that he had inadvertently took a dietary supplement that contained the banned substance, resulting in his positive test earlier this year.

Jarmon started 31 of 38 games in his three years with the Wildcats, ranking third on the school’s all-time list in sacks (17 1/2).

Lions sign veteran OT Salaam

Salaam, a veteran of 11 NFL seasons, was released by the Texans in February and appeared in 44 games with 30 starts over three seasons with Houston. However, he also lost his starting gig to rookie Duane Brown in 2008.

The 32-year-old Salaam has appeared in 154 career games, 129 of those starts, for Houston, Jacksonville, Denver and Atlanta.

49ers sign veteran CB Bly

“We lost a Pro Bowl caliber player in Walt Harris this week, and we were able to fill that void today with another Pro Bowler in Dr? Bly,” 49ers general manager Scot McCloughan said. “We added a player with a passion for the game, tremendous productivity and proven durability who knows what it takes to compete at a high level in the NFL.

It was important to get Dr? in here quickly so that he can get acquainted with our system, our coaches and his new teammates.” Harris suffered an ACL injury in practice on Tuesday and will undergo surgery within the next few weeks.

Former Hurricane QB Marve transfers to Purdue

A redshirt sophomore, Marve will have to sit out the 2009 season, adhering to NCAA transfer rules, but will have two years of eligibility left starting in 2010.

Marve redshirted as a true freshman in 2007 and started 11 consecutive games for Miami-Florida during 2008 campaign after taking over under center two games into the season.

Giants sign OL Reyes

The 10-year veteran who has lined up at both guard and center, Reyes has played in 53 regular-season games (37 starts) and three playoff games over his time with New Orleans, Tampa Bay, Carolina, Buffalo and Jacksonville.

To make room for the 6-foot-3, 305-pounder, the Giants waived tight end Martrez Milner.

Chiefs name Donovan to management posts

Donovan comes to the Chiefs after spending the last six seasons as senior vice president of business operations for the Philadelphia Eagles.

“We are very excited to have Mark join our team,” said team chairman Clark Hunt in a statement. “Mark’s track record of success in the business of the NFL has earned the respect and praise of the entire league.” During his tenure in Philadelphia, Donovan spearheaded the club’s efforts in sponsorship,sales, media production, retail operations and new media strategy to boost the team’s profile and brand. Prior to that, he was the NFL’s senior director of sales and marketing, and began his career as director of sales and marketing for the National Hockey League.

Niners CB Harris suffers ACL injury

The San Francisco Chronicle reportedly earlier Wednesday that Harris will miss the 2009 season after tearing a ligament in his right knee in practice.

The paper reported the 34-year-old was injured in a collision with receiver Dominique Ziegler.

Report: Niners CB Harris might miss season

The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that Harris, 34, was injured during Tuesday’s practice in a collision with receiver Dominique Ziegler. Harris was at the team’s training facility on Wednesday with an ice bag on his knee.

The paper is reporting that Harris will need surgery on his anterior cruciate ligament, which is at least partially torn.

ACC to face MAC in GMAC Bowl

The contest will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2010.

Since 2005 when they became a 12-team conference, the ACC has sent more teams to bowl games than any other conference. Of those 12 teams last year, 10 were bowl eligible.
