Raiders sign seventh overall pick Heyward-Bey

The Raiders’ Twitter page was the only official word from the team on Heyward- Bey’s signing. The Oakland Tribune is reporting the contract is for five years worth a guaranteed $23.5 million with a base salary of $38.25 million. The confirmed signing comes on the first day of training camp for Oakland.

Heyward-Bey starred at Maryland for three seasons, leaving prior to his senior season with the Terps to jump to the pro level. An All-ACC standout, Heyward- Bey totaled 138 receptions to rank third on the school’s all-time list and racked up 2,089 receiving yards, placing him second in school annals. He tied for third on the all-time list with 13 touchdown catches.

Titans sign draft pick Marks

The Titans selected the Mobile, Alabama, native in the second round (62nd overall) of this year’s draft. Marks recorded 114 tackles and 7 1/2 sacks while starting 37 of 40 games during his three years at Auburn.

Jags ink third round pick Cox, final selection Underwood

Cox was the club’s third-round pick out of William and Mary. A three-year starter, he is the second-highest drafted player in school history next to Darren Sharper, who was taken in the second round in 1997 by Green Bay.

Cox posted nine interceptions and 172 tackles in his collegiate career, including four picks — two for touchdowns.

Lions sign draft pick Delmas

Detroit selected the former Western Michigan safety with the first pick in the second round (33rd overall). Delmas recorded a career-high 111 tackles to lead the Broncos last season. He also had four interceptions, returning one for a touchdown.

Rams sign second overall pick Smith

Louis, MO (Sports Network) – The St. Louis Rams signed offensive tackle Jason Smith, the second overall selection in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft, on Thursday.

Giants sign pair of second-rounders

Sintim, the 45th overall pick out of Virginia, played in 49 games (48 starts) for the Cavaliers and was a team captain in 2008, when he totaled 70 tackles and a career-high 11 sacks. Sintim recorded 245 tackles and 27 sacks in his Virginia career.

The Giants made Beatty, a Connecticut product, the 60th overall choice in the draft. He started all 13 of the Huskies’ games last season at left tackle.

Chiefs sign three draft picks

Magee was the 67th pick overall out of Purdue. While with the Boilermakers, he played in 50 games (33 starts) and had 117 tackles, six sacks, one interception and four fumble recoveries.

Kansas City also signed its fourth-round pick, cornerback Donald Washington out of Ohio State and its sixth-round pick, wide receiver Quinten Lawrence from McNeese State.

Mountain West – ATS Records not aligned with SU Marks

The MWC has improved year-by-year against BCS clubs going from 4-9 SU three years ago to 7-11 in ’07 and finally, a very impressive 10-6 mark last season. Still, the ATS records fell from 8-4-1 ATS (65%) in ’06 to 9-7 (56%) last year.

The conference champ has gone undefeated in league play every year since ’04, so this year’s winner could get another crack at a BCS bowl game.

Vikings’ Udeze retires due to leukemia

The 26-year-old Los Angeles native missed last season after being diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The cancer is currently in remission, but it has hampered his ability to get into playing condition.

Udeze played in all 16 games for the Vikings last season, recording 47 tackles and five sacks.

Ravens agree to five-year deal with first-round pick Oher

Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Oher, Baltimore’s 23rd overall selection in this year’s draft, is the projected starter at right tackle. He is replacing retired Willie Anderson at the position.
