NFL gaming: How much are last impressions worth?

Indianapolis fell behind early but rallied to win going away, scoring the game’s final 24 points for the relatively easy 30-17 victory. Those folks who wagered on New York were probably counting their money late in the first half with a 17-6 lead and an extra eight points in their back pockets. But one thing you can never do is think a game is over when number 18 is under center for the opposition.

Bengals LB Maualuga charged with drunken, careless driving

According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, the 23-year-old Maualuga allegedly struck two parked cars and a parking meter at about 1:45 a.m. and registered a blood-alcohol level of .157, well over the legal limit of .08.

The team’s website, citing an NFL spokesman, said that Maualuga will likely face a maximum $50,000 fine as a first-time offender under the league’s substance-abuse policy and will not be suspended.

Eagles elevate Roseman to GM

Roseman served as vice president of player personnel for the past two seasons under former GM Tom Heckert, who left the organization after four years at the post to take the same job in Cleveland earlier this month.

His role will be similar to Heckert’s in that Roseman will team with head coach Andy Reid in managing the player personnel department. Reid, also vice president of football operations, will continue to ultimately hold final say on the club’s on-field decisions.

Jets QB Sanchez may opt for knee surgery

Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum confirmed Thursday that Sanchez was examined by noted sports surgeon Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham this week.

The injury to the patella ligament in the left knee of Sanchez stems from his days at Southern California. He dislocated the kneecap during the first week of fall practice prior to his junior season.

Amazing but true, and even more astonishing when considering that Hartley’s tenure with the Saints appeared to be on thin ice on multiple occasions this season. The first time, the precarious status of Hartley’s job had nothing to do with his play.

Virginia names Lazor offensive coordinator

Lazor spent the last seven seasons in the NFL, and most recently served as the Seattle Seahawks’ quarterbacks coach for two years.

“I am excited to be at the University of Virginia,” said Lazor. “First of all, I feel it’s a great atmosphere. I have lived in the state previously for four years and I have some very good friends in the area who have coached at Virginia. In my mind I have an unbelievable view of what Virginia football is, what it’s going to be and should be.” Lazor broke into coaching with Cornell, where he was a three-year starting quarterback, spending seven seasons there in a number of roles. He has also coachedat the University of Buffalo (2001-02), serving as offensive coordinator, before jumping to the NFL.

Rams RB Jackson accused of assaulting girlfriend

Louis, MO (Sports Network) – St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson has been accused of assaulting a former girlfriend while she was pregnant.

In a voluntary statement given to the Las Vegas police department, which was obtained by multiple media outlets, Jackson’s then-girlfriend Supriya Harris alleges he became physical with her during an argument in March 2009, while she was nine months pregnant.

Broncos promote Martindale to defensive coordinator

Martindale was the team’s linebackers coach in 2009, and fills the position vacated when the club agreed to part ways with Mike Nolan.

“We are excited to name Wink Martindale our defensive coordinator,” head coach Josh McDaniels said.

Two Michigan State players plead guilty

According to the Lansing State Journal, wide receivers Mark Dell and B.J. Cunningham each pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count of misdemeanor assault and battery, while each had a misdemeanor conspiracy charge dropped. The paper reported both are due to be sentenced March 8.

Back in December, the school suspended 11 football players from all team- related activities, and the Journal reports four who were there during the incident do not face charges and have returned from suspension. Those four are wide receivers Chris D.
