Cowboys and Bengals to play Hall of Fame Game

Cincinnati is making its first appearance in the contest since 1988, when it topped the Los Angeles Rams.

Dallas last played the game in 1999, and were edged by the Browns in overtime.

Chiefs release G Goff

Goff has played with Cincinnati, San Diego and Kansas City in his 12 NFL seasons.

The Iowa product appeared in eight games (seven starts) in 2009 for the Chiefs.

Report: Raiders tag Seymour

The paper reports the two sides are in negotiations for a long-term deal. But should that not happen, Seymour will make $12,398,000 in 2010 under the franchise tag agreement, which is the average of the five highest-paid players at the position from 2009.

Seymour went to the Raiders from the Patriots last September in a trade he said was unexpected. He did not join Oakland for several days, but went on to start all 16 games for the team in 2009. He recorded 47 tackles, four sacks and one forced fumble.

Patriots bring back WR Patten

Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Patten played for the Patriots from 2001-04, during which time New England won three Super Bowl titles. Over 54 regular season games in those four seasons, Patten recorded 165 catches for 2,513 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Former Patriot Tatupu dies

According to a report from the Honolulu Star-Bulletin, Tatupu died Tuesday of unknown causes. The report said Tatupu suffered from high blood pressure and other ailments.

Tatupu, the father of current Seahawks star linebacker Lofa Tatupu, played for New England from 1978-90, making the Pro Bowl in 1986 on special teams. He then played five games for the Rams in 1991, his last season in the NFL.

Texans to let go of Robinson

Robinson received the franchise tag last year, but according to the Houston Chronicle, the team has informed him they will not do so this offseason. The paper also reported negotiations on a new contract will not occur, making Robinson an unrestricted free agent.

A first-round pick in 2004, Robinson started all 16 games for Houston in 2009 and totaled 64 tackles with one forced fumble.

Report: Bears hire Ruskell as director of player personnel

ESPN.com is announcing that the deal will be made official in the next 48 hours.

Ruskell, who resigned from Seattle late last season, will rejoin Bears general managerJerry Angelo. The two worked together in Tampa Bay from 1987 through 2000.

Hanson sues Raiders coach Tom Cable, team

The Oakland Tribune cited court documents that Hanson filed in an Alameda County courthouse saying he was suing Cable and the club for assault, battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Last October, the Napa County district attorney’s office decided not to file criminal charges against Cable for allegedly assaulting Hanson. Cable was accused of attacking Hanson at a meeting while the team was staying at a hotel during training camp. Hanson was treated at a local hospital for a fractured jaw, although he elected not to say who assaulted him when questioned by authorities.

Jets ink Folk

Folk’s deal is believed to be for one year and is viewed as insurance against current Jets kicker Jay Feely possibly leaving via free agency. Feely is due to become an unrestricted free agent March 5.

Folk struggled in 2009, his third year in Dallas, making just 18-of-28 field goal attempts. Overall, the 25-year-old has converted 79 percent of his field goals (64-of-81) in three NFL seasons.

Chargers’ Jackson pleads guilty to DUI

Jackson already had a prior DUI charge and Tuesday’s plea will likely garner a suspension by the league under the NFL’s substance-abuse policy.

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Jackson was sentenced to five years probation, a $2,408 fine and 15 days of community service for the January 2009 arrest in the Clairemont section of San Diego.
