Bears hire Ruskell as director of player personnel

Ruskell, who resigned from Seattle late last season, rejoins Bears general manager Jerry Angelo.

The two worked together in Tampa Bay from 1987 through 2000.

Man who murdered Darrent Williams gets life in prison

According to The Denver Post, Clark also got 1,152 years in prison for 16 attempted murder charges.

Clark was convicted on March 11 of first-degree murder after firing a gun into Williams’ limousine on New Year’s Day, 2007.

Jaguars sign LB Keiaho

Keiaho had spent his entire four-year career with Indianapolis and appeared in all 16 games in 2009, starting two and collecting 26 tackles and a sack. He added 14 special teams stops.

The 27-year-old’s best season came in 2008 where he totaled 114 tackles in 14 starts.

Lions sign LB Campbell following military stint

Campbell, who was initially allowed to enter the draft upon graduation, was supposed to complete his military service as a recruiter while playing for the Lions; however, the Army changed its policy the summer after he was drafted, forcing him to serve in the military before signing a contract with the team.

Favre clarifies ankle injury; still uncertain of return

Earlier Friday, ESPN reported that Favre’s ankle is still painful and noted sports surgeon Dr. James Andrews told the future Hall of Famer that surgery would be unavoidable. It was then surmised by many that Favre’s decision on whether to return for a 20th NFL season might hinge on the procedure.

However, Favre dismissed that notion with a statement on his official website.

Jeff Feagles calls it a career

Feagles spent the past seven years with the New York Giants and had signed a contract to play in 2010, but changed his mind and said Friday it was time to call it quits.

“I’ve accepted it, it is what it is,” said Feagles during a press conference on Friday. “A week ago Monday, I got out of bed and the good Lord above sent me a sign and said you’re finished. My knee was hurting, my back was hurting, and I said I just can’t do this.” The 44-year-old veteran averaged 40.7 yards on 64 punts for the Giants last season. He holds the NFL record for punts with 1,713.

Report: Favre needs ankle surgery if he returns

Favre told ESPN in an email that the ankle injury he sustained in the NFC Championship Game against New Orleans in January has still not healed and that noted sports surgeon Dr. James Andrews informed the future Hall of Famer that surgery is unavoidable if he wants to play this season.

It’s a familiar situation for Favre, who last summer underwent surgery for a partially torn biceps tendon before coming back to play for Minnesota. He was hurt late in the 2008 season with the New York Jets.

Chargers officially sign Novak

Novak, who was out of football last season, joins his fourth NFL team, having previously kicked for Washington, Arizona and Kansas City.

Seahawks Pro Bowl offensive lineman Walter Jones retires

Jones, 36, reached eight straight Pro Bowls from 2001-08 before missing the 2009 campaign following microfracture surgery on his left knee.

The Florida State product was the sixth overall pick by the Seahawks in the 1997 NFL Draft. In 180 career games in Seattle, the 6-foot-5, 325-pounder was called for holding a mere nine times and allowed just 23 sacks in 5,703 pass plays.
