Former Dolphins safety Jarvis Williams dies

The Dolphins said Williams died of an apparent heart attack.

Williams, selected in the second round of the 1988 draft out of the University of Florida, spent six seasons with the Dolphins.

New York awarded Super Bowl XLVIII

The New Meadowlands Stadium, located in East Rutherford, New Jersey, will be the site for the Super Bowl after the 2013 season.

The $1.6 billion stadium, which seats 82,500, opened April 10, 2010 and will be the new home for both the New York Giants and Jets.

Patriots sign third-round pick Price

Price was the third-round pick of the Patriots in this year’s draft, taken 90th overall.

Over his four years at Ohio University, he started 38 of 52 games and set a school record with 149 catches. His 2,019 receiving yards were second-best in school history.

Eagles release P Brooks

Brooks, the winner of the Ray Guy Award for the nation’s top punter in 2007, was signed by Philadelphia in February to compete with incumbent Sav Rocca.

A sixth-round pick of the Redskins in 2008, the Georgia Tech product posted a 39.6 yards-per-punt average in six games for Washington in 2008.

Michigan responds to NCAA allegations

Among the sanctions proposed by the school was two years of probation.

Before the 2009 season began, reports surfaced indicating the football team violated NCAA rules regarding time limits on off-season workouts and in-season demands.

Supreme Court rules against NFL

The decision reversed a ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, leaving the NFL open to antitrust action.

The case centers around a suit American Needle, Inc. filed against the NFL after the teams authorized National Football League Properties (NFLP) to enter into an exclusive agreement with Reebok to produce and sell hats for all 32 teams in December 2000. American Needle had previously held a non-exclusive license, and claimed the NFL violated provisions of the Sherman Antitrust Act in its suit.

Giants TE Boss has successful surgery

Boss posted on his Twitter account that the arthroscopic procedure to debride his right ankle went well.

He will be sidelined for four to six weeks, a timetable that should allow him to return on schedule for the start of training camp.

Bears ink LB Iwuh to one-year deal

Financial details were not disclosed.

The 26-year-old played in 15 games, including two starts, and registered a career-high 38 tackles to go with 17 special teams stops in 2009 with Jacksonville.

Saints add McKie

McKie spent the past seven seasons with the Chicago Bears, starting 46 of the 87 games he played with the club. Primarily a blocker, he has carried just 29 times for 84 yards with three touchdowns and also has 68 receptions for 364 yards with three scores.

The Temple product was released by the Bears in March. He appeared in all 16 games and started 11 for Chicago in 2009, finishing with five catches for 13 yards.

Hall of Famer Stan Jones dies

Jones, who was one of the first NFL players to include weightlifting in his conditioning regimen, played in the NFL from 1954-66. He spent all but one of those seasons with the Chicago Bears, who selected him in the 1953 draft after a college career at Maryland.

Jones finished his pro career in 1966 with the Redskins, having been selected to seven Pro Bowls. The Altoona, PA native was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1991.
